In late June, Acura will release the much-anticipated 2021 Acura TLX Type-S. Its sister, the TLX, has been available for two model years, and it has been a popular choice for drivers who appreciate the early days of the automaker. The TLX S-Type is designed to remind drivers of Acura’s early reputation as an automaker that combined style, speed, and luxury with Honda-like reliability.

Highlights on the TLX S-Type

The standard TLX comes with a turbocharged four-cylinder, but the 2021 TLX S-Type comes standard with an impressive 3.0-liter V-6 with turbocharging. This notable engine produces 355 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque to throw you back in your seat and put a massive grin on your face. The powerful Acura includes the Type-S badge as well as Acura’s super-handling all-wheel drive. The Acura S-AWD system makes the sedan drive more like a sports car with its double-wishbone suspension and sport-tuned transmission.

The standard TLX comes with four drive modes, the S-Type has a fifth. The modes include Comfort, Normal, Sport, Sport+, and a programmable Individual mode.
The Type S is designed to compete with more expensive German sports sedans, like the Audi S4, but it comes with a significantly lower price tag, beefy turbocharged 3.0-liter, along with Acura’s reliability and styling.

Standard Tech Features

Acura has remained rather tight-lipped about all of the features in the Type S model. Other than the color choices, performance details, and some striking photos, buyers have to wait until the car is released for more information. Acura has released information about the sound system, which includes the ELS Studio 3D with seventeen premium speakers. Acura also mentioned the TLX will be well-equipped with several sophisticated features from the TLX Advance Package trim. This includes a wireless charging pad for your smartphone, a 10.5-inch heads-up display with a 10.2-inch dual-content display, and a 7-inch infotainment display.

Options on the TLX S-Type

Because the 2021 Acura TLX S-Type specials come with so many standard features, Acura does not offer many options. Buyers get to choose from six attractive color choices and three interior options. Two exclusive choices include the Tiger Eye Pearl paint and Orchid leather interior. To coordinate with these exclusive color choices, Acura includes an open-surface diamond pentagon grille, large exhaust outlets, and a pair of wheel options, like the NSX-inspired wheels with 255-series Pirelli tires.

The Type S has some beautiful features on the inside, too. The 16-way power seats have Ultrasuede trim, adjustable side bolsters, and special Type S branding on the headrests.

Safety Features

The 2021 Acura TLX has already earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety. Acura added a next-generation passenger-front airbag system that earned notice from Popular Science, which gave Acura a “Best of What’s New” award for the safety redesign.

Acura included several standard driver’s assist features on the TLX, and experts expect they will be included in the TLX S-Type. They include popular features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Braking, Road Departure Mitigation, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, Surround View Camera System, Head-Up Warning, and Blind Spot Information.

The TLX also includes Parking Sensors in the front and rear, automatic high beams, rain-sensing windshield wipers with wiper deicers, and the next-generation front airbags.
