A side-by-side comparison of the 2018 Acura TLX vs. 2018 Lexus IS 300

The ongoing battle for luxury sedan supremacy stretches into another new model between Acura and Lexus. Comparing the 2018 Acura TLX vs. 2018 Lexus IS 300 shows just how far both automakers have come in recent years. There are several similarities between the two sedans, but with enough of a difference in key areas where customers may be persuaded to join the Acura ownership experience. For the new model year, the 2018 Acura TLX has picked up a refreshed front end and Acura has made its suite of active safety systems available on each of the sedan's trim grades. The 2018 version of the Acura TLX is available for sale or lease at the Spitzer Acura showroom.

In terms of available choices, the 2018 Lexus IS 300 simply cannot compete with the 2018 Acura TLX. The automaker continues to produce its top-of-the-line sedan in six different trims: TLX 2.4L, TLX 2.4L with Technology, TLX 3.5L, TLX 3.5L with Technology, TLX 3.5L A-Spec and TLX 3.5L with Advance package. On the other side of the equation, the 2018 IS 300 more or less comes in a single trim with a few accessory packages a buyer can choose. While the 2018 TLX offers a dizzying array of choices, each of them is well-equipped with a comprehensive list of features. Unlike the 2018 Lexus IS 300, the infotainment system in the new TLX is compatible with applications from today's most popular smartphones.

Performance specifications

Going along with the idea of offering customers as many choices as possible, both the 2018 Acura TLX and 2018 Lexus IS 300 have a couple different engine options. The 2018 TLX uses a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine making 206 horsepower and 182 pound-feet of torque which is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. For more performance, the new TLX also makes a 3.5-liter, V-6 power plant an attractive choice. This engine also uses an eight-speed automatic, but adds the possibility of having all-wheel-drive. By comparison, the 2018 IS 300 starts buyers out with a turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder motor and also offers a V-6 upgrade which does not meet the performance scores of the corresponding Acura engine.
